The Witchual Hour: Samhain – Grief & Transformation

This week’s episode was born in the quiet ache of melancholy and loss. As we turn the Wheel of the Year toward Samhain, the veil thins between the living and the dead, and the air itself hums with memory. This is the time when we honor our ancestors, our beloved dead, and all the versions of ourselves we’ve shed along the way.

Grief is not something to escape; it is a sacred teacher. It softens the edges of our hearts and reminds us what it means to love deeply. In recovery, we learn to face what we once tried to numb, the emptiness, the longing, the shadow of what’s been lost, and through that courage, we find light again.

This episode of The Witchual Hour moves through the full cycle of that transformation. We begin in descent, dark, cinematic, and stirring, and slowly journey toward remembrance, release, and rebirth.

A Ritual in Sound

The show opens with Peter Gundry’s “The Vampire Masquerade Organ Version” and “The Witch’s Curse”, setting a ceremonial tone. From there, the energy deepens with Adrian Von Ziegler, Hippie Sabotage, and Nightmares On Wax, guiding us into the underworld of our own emotions.

As the circle opens, we explore grief as both weight and medicine. Through songs like Fleurie’s “Sirens”, alt-J’s “Hunger of the Pine”, and breathe.’s “Yesterday,” the heart finds its voice again.

The collective tarot reading this week reflects themes of release, surrender, and ancestral healing, reminding us that every ending carries the seed of renewal.

By the time we reach the final sets, featuring Equador, Agnes Obel, Thievery Corporation, Massive Attack, and RY X, we emerge lighter, grounded, and ready to carry our memories forward with love instead of pain.

Ask a Witch: Grieving and Growing

During this week’s Ask a Witch segment, I’ll be answering listener questions about navigating loss, ancestral connection, and personal transformation in recovery. We’ll talk about how grief can awaken spiritual gifts, how to forgive ourselves for what happened in the past, and how to let go of old versions of self with grace.

If you have a question for a future episode, email me or send a voice note through the Sober Witch Life app.

A Magickal Moment for Samhain

I’ll also share a simple candle ritual to honor the dead and release what no longer serves. Light a candle for each soul, whisper a gratitude, and when you’re ready, blow the flame out as an offering of trust, knowing that love never leaves, it only changes form.

May this ritual in sound hold space for your grief, your healing, and your transformation.
