Every September, I pause and honor National Recovery Month. It’s a time to celebrate the millions of us living in recovery, to remember the lives we’ve lost, and to say out loud that healing is not only possible but sacred.
This year feels different, though. This year, I launched something I’ve been dreaming of for a long time: the Sober Witch Life merchandise store.
Why Clothes Matter in Recovery
I know some people might see it as “just merch” like t-shirts, sweatshirts, tote bags, and mugs. For me, it’s much more than that. Every design I’ve created carries the spirit of rebellion, recovery, and witchcraft. They’re not just things to wear. They’re statements, talismans, sigils.
When I put on a shirt that says Sober Witch 4 Life, I’m not just dressing myself. I’m declaring my survival. I’m saying: I am sober, I am a witch, and I am proud of both. That matters in a world that still stigmatizes sobriety and witchcraft.
I wanted to give my community, other witches in recovery, something they could wear that feels like armor, like truth, like a flag we can raise together.
The Designs That Carry Our Voice
The Sober Witch 4 Life design is probably the closest to my heart. It’s bold, it’s eccentric, and it’s eternal. Recovery isn’t temporary for me. It’s a lifelong covenant. Pairing that with the sacred identity of being a witch makes it even more powerful.
Then there’s Psycat AF, which is cheeky, rebellious, and a little irreverent. Recovery isn’t just solemn and serious. It’s alive, it’s funny, and it challenges stereotypes about what sobriety or spirituality is supposed to look like.
Each design is my way of saying: we get to tell our own story.
A Mission Beyond Merchandise
The truth is, I didn’t create this store just for fashion. Proceeds from everything sold go directly toward building The Sovereign Phoenix, the nonprofit religious fellowship I’ve been working on with our community.
The Sovereign Phoenix is more than an idea. It’s a spiritual home for witches in recovery. A fellowship where sobriety is honored as sacred, where magick is practiced as soul work, and where we can rise from the ashes of trauma and addiction together.
I’ve said it before and I’ll keep saying it: every shirt, every tote bag, every mug is a signpost. It’s visibility. It’s proof that witches in recovery exist, and that we’re not hiding anymore.
Why Recovery Month Was the Right Time
Launching the store during National Recovery Month was intentional. Recovery Month is about visibility, about bringing our stories into the light. And my story isn’t just that I stopped drinking. It’s that I stopped drinking and I embraced my magick.
For me, recovery and witchcraft are not separate. Recovery is alchemy. It’s shadow work. It’s transmutation. It’s the phoenix rising. That’s why tying this launch to Recovery Month felt so right. It’s another way of saying: we are here, we are healing, and we’re doing it in our own way.
The Response from the Community
Already, I’ve seen witches in recovery eager to share photos in their new gear, naming how good it will feel to finally wear something that reflects their whole identity. That joy, that pride, that relief, it tells me this work matters.
And I know this is just the beginning. I plan to expand the line with designs tied to the Wheel of the Year, and collaborate with other artists who walk both the path of recovery and the path of witchcraft.
Why It Matters
We are living in a cultural moment where recovery is finally being spoken of more openly, and witchcraft is rising in visibility. But witches in recovery? We’re still invisible in most spaces. Too often we’ve had to hide parts of ourselves: our sobriety in witchcraft spaces, our witchcraft in recovery spaces.
This store, and the movement behind it, is my way of saying: no more hiding.
Sobriety is sacred. Witchcraft is sacred. And when the two meet, the result is nothing short of magickal.
So yes, it’s a store. But it’s also a banner. A declaration. A prayer stitched into cotton.
We are here. We are sober. We are witches. And we are proud.
